Fence Typeface
THE BRIEF
Chain link fencing creates a grid, the structure and pattern of which I have adopted to dictate letter forms. Each character conforms to a width and height designed to limit the type face to an absolute simplicity of expression. Within these confines i.e. four quadrants wide and five quadrants high for uppercase, the design process took on a careful balance between affecting the maximum stylistic expression within the most minimal confines.
At the lowercase point in the type face the challenge has been to acknowledge the human hand in the creative process. This has been achieved by trying to render letter forms which represent a basic style of handwriting. Contrasting an analogue process of communication with a type face that represents digitisation.
